Gp Capt J B "Willie" Tait

Postby C » Sun Sep 09, 2007 3:29 pm

One of the most decorated RAF pilots of WWII passed away a week last Friday.

Gp Capt James Tait commanded 3 bomber Sqns, including the Dambusters on the final, succussful attack on the Tirpitz. He was up in the same league as legends such as Gibson and Cheshire, and could quite easily have been awarded the VC alongside them.

Here's the obituary from September 4th Telegraph - well worth a read:

They're disappearing quickly, but we must never forget airmen like Tait... not enough gallantry, sustained or otherwise these days.
