Digital Cameras???

Postby igs942 » Sun Jul 22, 2007 1:08 pm

Quick question - do airlines class digital cameras as electronic equipment i.e. in their eyes is photography during take off and landing allowed? I know that you could say anything with a battery is electronic but just wondered.

Admin - feel free to move to Photos and Cameras - I wasn't sure which forum to put this is  :-/

Probably yes, but considering all the cabin staff will be strapped in on takeoff, you needn't worry. They're more worried about portable electronic transmitters/receivers.

as said above....to my knowledge none of my cameras transmit or recieve data and cannot therefore interfere with equipment in any way.....it's also universally accepted that it's fine ;)

This is definetly done at takeoff... but its a 40 year old 707 and a non-civil airline, maybe that changes the situation.

In the US i think you should use a small palm sized one or you'll get asked to put it away...

I use my camera frequently on A319s and A320 type aircraft....and the beauty is they cant tell you to put it away, cos all the cabin crew are sat down with their seatbelts on ;)

Do all of you actually turn your phones off for flights? I don't and I haven't crashed yet! (Touch wood). So if phones don't really cause a problem then why should cameras, there just simply wires and batteries. Silly airline policies!  ::)

Cameras don't transmit/recieve, and they aren't in he back of then-flight magazines as  prohibited electronic devices.  that being said, f/a's may not remember and make you put them away. They are also concerned about hte distraction factor ICE.  Ive been told to, but that was because we were delayed on a taxiway and they came through the cabin.  keep it on the DL and you should be good.

i wouldnt worry about it - the rule is mostly concerned with anything that is capable of wireless transmission like a cell phone, GPS or two way radio etc.

its best to try and film the landing.

i have had a passenger forget to turn off their cell phone before and it blocked out more than enough of our radio calls. we had to call the flight attendant and tell her to make sure everyone had their phones off. we would hear about the first three seconds of ATC radio instructions but then just that old familiar squelch of the cell phone interference.

i wouldnt think this would be the case with a camera though

No point having it on at all. You ever heard the noise from the speakers if you phone receives a call when it's sat next to the telly/radio? Imagine the amount of electrical kit that could suffer from interference on an airliner... :-?
