I must admit, she doesn't look half as bad as the renderings/Abacus made her look.

Its a little stumpy, but definately a beautiful aircraft.  The sweeping wings and tail, the cockpit windows, and the engine nacelles all just look great.  I'm sure it will look much better after paint.  I know I can't wait to see it in the air either ;)

Remember this is about the 787, not 737 vs A320.

I can't wait till she flies, what a beaut! ;)

Alright, I know I am beating a dead horse here, but the real reason for this post is showing how good the dc9 series is.

We must not forget that the A320, at launch, was made by a fairly newcommer to the Airline industry. This could of meant that Airlines were hesitant to buy it before first flight, which is made worse as the A320 is a whole new Aircraft which would of taken a long time to develop.

Now the Dc9, nne of the reasons that NW has held out so long with the DC9 and has not bought anything to replace it is the fact that NW feels that there is nothing out there that can equally replace the DC9. It is a tough plane that can take a lot of cycles, day after day. The dispatch reliability at NW is better for the DC9 than it is for the A319/A320.

Current NW dc9 fleet:
McDonnell Douglas DC-9-30 (100 seats) -- 68
McDonnell Douglas DC-9-40 (110 seats) -- 11
McDonnell Douglas DC-9-50 (125 seats) -- 29

Yet 20 year old A320's from the same Airline are getting scrapped from cracks in the wings? On short routes 737-200s and DC9s are actually more economical than newer 737s and A320s... Aloha and Hawaiian is an example of this.

Very true.  Douglas/McDonnell Douglas really made their planes to last.  That is why NWA is having a hard time finding a replacement.  Nothing exists that can take the high number of cycles that the DC-9 can.  They are talking about being the launch customer for the BOmbardier C-Series.

Don't forget OzJet ZeroTime. I would've thought you would've remembered OzJet being Australian. ;)

The DC-9 and the A320 are uncomparable just as the 787 and A380 are.  Different types of aircraft that do different jobs.

Different types of aircraft that do different jobs.

Short to medium distance routes, mostly domestic.

*That* different? ;)

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

If it didnt say that that plane was the 787 i would have guessed it would have been a 767, tbh the artists impressons are alot more radical than the real deal, to me it just looks like any other airliner

3000 A320's delivered out of 5000 orders. Aircraft first flew in1988

On the numbers, I would say that Air Bus is a nose ahead, but remember, this is a DC3 fan who likes to stir 8-)

And are opening a factory in China. That'll be a lot of aeroplanes if they corner the Chinese domestic markets...
