My brother was in Ipswich most of the day, he saw them fly over last year, but not this year.
And from the Google group im in i got some info that only the Red Arrows formed up near Ipswich and the rest of the formation at southwold.
Also for single engined helicopters it wouldn't be that difficult to do an autorotation landing, their must be loads of space around Buckingham palace, or maybe even the courtyard

I seem to think it would be more difficult that it seems!

"Right, you've lost an engine, you're over the middle of London with a large crowd below, and the home of some lady known as the 'Queen'. Not to mention the Queen herself and most of the Royal family. You'll probably get killed yourself if you get this wrong, although that won't seem like such a bad thing if you've just landed on balcony of Buckingham Palace!

No pressure, though..."

You probably end up getting killed if you do most things wrong in an aircraft ;)

No Harriers in the Falklands flypast. As nice as it would be, the Harrier isn't allowed to fly over London, due to it only having one engine and a poor glide ratio if that engine happens to fail.

Strangely, there are a multitude of helicopters taking part in the flypast. Gliding helicopters I presume... :-?

That's a bit odd, considering the fact that (As far as I know), the Harrier was one of the biggest aviation players in the Falklands battles, correct? You think they'd have at least a couple fly over...

Actualy, helicopters have a better glide ratio then any other plane(except gliders) deu to the face that the rotor blades will generate lift when the helo decends, also gives it a pretty safe landing chance, called and auto-rotation, all helicopter pilots are  trained on this.
