Back in the saddle

It may not be a big deal to anyone else, but I'm excited. After several months of not flying, I've finally resumed my flying lessons. I've had two since my hiatus and already made a breakthrough, I've learned to deal with crosswinds. Last week, we had a 90* crosswind at about 8mph, I've flown under such conditions before, but never could get the hang of it until now. My first three landing of the day were horrible, but then something clicked and suddenly landing with my controls crossed was second nature. I dare say that my last landing was better than my best in no-wind conditions. I can't wait to go again. :)

Excellent !  Of all the things you learn, flying... crosswind landings do have that, "AHA" to them..

Has your instructor drilled on Dutch Rolls yet ? Those really help. Next time you're in closed traffic; make a low pass or two at 70kias, Dutch Rolling at the departure end of the runway.

Congratulations, good to hear you're flying again.  Crosswinds are always a pain, but it's good to hear you're getting the hang of them.  It's always satisfying to grease it in on a windy day. 8-) ;)

Glad to hear you're getting back into the swing of things.  8mph is a lot to handle at first, but before you know it you'll be able to land in 30kt direct crosswinds.  Just keep in mind your demonstrated crosswind component (and its just that, demonstrated, not a limitation or restriction on the airplane.  Takeoff or land any more than that and you become your own test pilot  ;))

Great to hear. I also think crosswinds are a real pain, but I have gotten the hang of them recently.

Good for you...glad you got back at it  ;)

Pilots should all know how to "Tap Dance" or "Square Dance".

Someday I hope you get a chance to try a good stiff crosswind in a "Dak (DC3/C47), DeHavilland DHC-3 (Otter), Expediter (Beech 18), DeHavilland DHC-1 (Chipmunk), Piper Cub or any of those wonderful flying machines with a tailwheel.  :)
You will soon find out what a rudder is for matey.   ;D LOL

Keep at it, practice makes perfect.  ;)
