New heathrow

Postby FsNovice » Fri Jun 01, 2007 4:41 am

planning permission has been granted to a Heathrow East, to replace the delapidated T1&2, hopefully they say in time for London 2012. If there current T5 is anything to go by, it will probably be on time.

They just dont stop over at Heathrow do they?  ::)

lol

That will make the traffic and pax coming in and out constantly a bit messed up wont it? Or will they only have certain sections closed off at one time to keep the flow of pax....?

I'd assume no-one's stupid enough to do all this at once - we're talking about the busiest airport in the world ;)

I wouldn't bet on it. :P

O.k, I'm being naive. There's plenty of money-hungry fat cats who'll be more than willing to bring half of Britain's airspace to a halt for at least a year, maybe two.

I was thinking more of the chaos on the ground.

But because of the chaos on the ground, far fewer flights would be able to get in. So ground works would severely limit Heathrows capacity.

About time, T1 isn't so bad but T2 is horrible. Hopefully this will bring heathrow back into line with most modern airports.

I worked on T5 for over 2 years constructing it and it's an awesome terminal.
T3 is about to get a major overhaul in the next 6 months or so and 1&2 after that.

I can't wait to see the A380 land there, will be an incredible sight.

I flew in and out of T4 and it was just fine.  My wife went through T1 and didn't have any problems.  Still, airports simply need to keep up to date with new terminals and I'd hope they know enough about phased construction to make things liveable while they build.  Shouldn't be too hard.

I reckon/hope they will wait until T5 is finsihed and able to take the load from the other terminals, before they start construction. But the infrastruture needs a huge revamp before they can call this a success. The M4 and M25 simply cant cope as it is, with T5 they will struggle!!!
