When is the A380-800...

Postby NDSP » Sat Jan 06, 2007 10:19 pm

When is the long awaited A380-800 schedualled to enter service. 3040?

Just questioning because it definatly wont be debuting in 2007.

Also when is the 787-800 (?) debuting itself.

Just wanting to know

The first commercial flight of the A380 is scheduled in early 2008 I believe. I could be, and probably am, wrong.

The 787 hasn't even begun to be put together. My guess is around 2010 for a maiden flight, with commercial service in 2012 maybe. Let me check.

I think Boeing still thinks the 787 will be ready to fly by next year, but it won't enter service for a while.

The A380 as I heard was supposed to be going for the first passenger flight around November to December 2007 but beacuse of the faults and problems it is now in 2008.

I heard that they were holding off until Airbus had come up with a way to make the A380 look half decent.

In which case 2008 could be a bit optimistic  ;D ;D

I heard that because of the imminent arrival of the A380 onto the scene Boeing stock had plummeted and the company was going into administration.

Of if you want a real answer, the A380 will enter service sometime soon, the 787 might fly sometime after that.

As of last month Singapore are expecting the first (now certified) A380 deliveries to them to be delivered to them in October 2007, so all being well, late 2007 would be very good for them. I wonder if actually the delays may actually have allowed some of their other aircraft to "catch up" the first come delivery time. I think your estimates for the 787 are very fair. 2009/10 sounds reasonable for 2012 deliveries.

I think the A380 is a fine looking airplane. I enjoy tooling around the clouds in mine...

Has Airbus found the solution to all of the problems the A380-800 has? The electical and wieght problems that have hurt it for the past year?  :-?

Also im guessing the 747-8 shouldnt be long after the 787 right?  :-?

Please if anyone knows if a 747-8 has been put on SimV tell me.   8-)

Considering it is now EASA and FAA certified, I expect it has all been solved. I don't suppose there would be any reason for it not to start carrying pax tomorrow, other than lack of production aircraft and crew perhaps...

Here's an excerpt from the Boeing site. I don't think they would be happy to give a definate timescale on the 747-800 yet:

Model             First Order        Rollout        First Flight        Certification      First Delivery        In Service        First Airline in service
747-400F        09/13/89        03/08/93        05/04/93        10/22/93        11/17/93                11/17/93        Cargolux
747-400ER      12/19/00        06/17/02       07/31/02         10/29/02       10/31/02                11/07/02        Qantas
747-400ERF     04/17/01        09/05/02        09/02           10/16/02          10/17/02                   10/02        Air France
747-8                 11/14/05             ?                      ?                  ?                  ?                              ?            Cargolux

There is no reason weight problems should hinder EASA certification. I suspect EASA would gladly certify an aircraft which is safe to fly but, because it is overweight, has too little range and payload and too much fuel burn to compete.

...and then on the next page:

(747-800)
   *  Launch - November 2005
   * Freighter firm configuration - October 2006
   * Intercontinental firm configuration - mid to late 2007
   * Freighter rollout - late 2008
   * First flight - fourth quarter 2008
   * Freighter certification and entry into service - late 2009
   * Intercontinental certification and entry into service - mid to late 2010

But only the freighter variant first...
