This is why I love studying the 50's and 60's.

I was alive back then & consider myself very lucky indeed. Friends of my age all agree with me that it was the best time to be young. Not sure I could cope with the constant pressure kids seem to be under today.

I'm sure you will look back & think the same about your childhood when you're my age. ;)

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Ah yes, the era when half of the developed world's adult population lived with the nightmare visions of war and tried like hell to make their homes and communities in to utopia, with all the good and bad that implies.  Nothin' like a pair of world wars and a great depression to form a culture.  I guess given the military precision and demanding nature of their parents it's no wonder that the offspring became counter-culture hippies.  

Frankly I like being alive today.  Growing up in the 1980's wasn't nearly as bad as the news made it out to be.  As much as I admire my Grandparent's generation for overcoming the hardships of war and economic decay I appreciate being raised by a bunch of ex-hippies turned conformist parents.  But to be a kid again today, that I think is a blessing.  It's easy to look in the mirror and remember "the good times" and eras gone by, but dig deep and you'll find that the good times weren't really as good as we remember them.

I started jet-setting in the mid-70's aged 4 and it was awesome. You could go to the cockpit and talk with the pilots and learn stuff, you got freebies from them (airlines gave them to pilots to give to young aviation enthusiasts) and stuff. I've still got an impressive collection of things at home like TWA pilots badges, KLM caps, Qantas junior flier packages etc. Probably worth a fortune on eBay but worth far more as memories 8-)

Ah. I miss the 50's. And I'm from the 90's. That was the era, where kids would build model planes, they wouldn't have PS2 or Xbox, and things were just...better. Now look. We have terrorism. Kids are too lazy to build anything. And pilots won't let you into the cockpit in flight.  :-/

As a child of the 90's you may not remember the '80s when it seemed like a week didn't go by where terrorists would hijack a plane and hold the passengers hostage for months on end.  Terrorism has been alive in well for quite some time.  Just off the top of my head (these weren't all in the 1980's) there was Munich, Entebee, Lockerbee, TWA 843, not to mention a TON of bombings of embassies, night clubs, etc, and to round it all out the Oklahoma Federal Building.
