Just realised this one I've seen could also be considered rare (to me anyway)...

It is indeed. Only six examples of the Percival Mew Gull were built & this is the sole airworthy survivor. Not only that but G-AEXF is the actual aircraft in which the legendary Alex Henshaw set a world record which remains unbeaten today. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Henshaw

I just remembered one.  At KHSA, before I worked there, they had several Martin 4-0-4 airlines rotting away on the north ramp.  I think the whole story was they were owned by a guy running a drug op, and when he was busted they were taken by the feds.  After that, they were left to rot.

And mine. I've also seen it chew up a runway too...

The Mew Gull reminds me of another rare classic that I've been lucky to see - the Miles Hawk Speed Six. :)

I was in Amarillo, TX a few years back, out on the golf course with my cousin.  As he was getting ready to putt on the fifth or sixth hole, I heard a strange chopping noise and looked up to see a V-22 Osprey "whomping" overhead at about 800 ft AGL.  I yelled out and jumped in the golfcart to get a better vantage point, leaving my bewildered cousin standing on the green.  After ten minutes of chasing it around the golf course, my cousin caught up to me and told me that the base they make the V-22 at is located a few miles outside of town. Needless to say, I made him take me there and show me the plant.  We couldn't get too close, but I got a great view of two takeoffs and a landing, plus three of them sitting on the tarmac.  Very nice!

Oh, and my cousin missed the putt . . . ;)

For the last time!

DC-3s ARE NOT RARE!

Come on people, have some sense!  More than 10,000 were built, and a few hundred are still flying, probably more than 500.
