Interesting. May I ask where you saw the FD2?

my interest stems from her taking the family to watch cadets land gliders on a nearby local field........we could hear them on the radio as they passed very low over the roadway just before touching down........

I was living in South Sheilds at the time......mouth of the Tyne.

You mean South Shields.

Not exactly rare, though, is it?![]()

Come to think of it, I forgot my best flight ever! - The day I got a ride in an Auster.
I don't know how "rare" the Auster is, probably not very rare, but I think a flight in one could be considered somewhat rare? Rare or not, it's a lovely plane!

It would depend on the type. Some Austers are rarer than others but there's still quite a few around. You were lucky to get a flight in one though.

Here it is!
OY-EFU - Beagle-Auster A.61 Terrier 2
This little beauty!

yep this is what I meant by "rare" when I started this thread. As I mentioned earlier, rarity is relevant to you & where you are. If you've never seen one before I suppose it could be classed as rare.

PS. My idea of a rare aircraft is where there is only a limited number in existence. I've been lucky enough to see quite a few where only a very small number were ever built. Not only that but seen them in the air where they belong.
