`Newark (US) to Munich in a 737?

Postby Felix/FFDS » Wed Nov 29, 2006 10:46 pm

Lately I've taken to browsing at Flightaware.com, looking up smaller air cargo feeder operators, but tonight I stumbled on Lufthansa .... about 18 flights in the air to/from the US...  including flight 413, Newark to Munich in a 737-700.  I always figured that these "long" flights were made in comfort, 767s 777s 747s, A330s A340s, etc.....

But when you think that the basic fuselage of the 737 is that of the intercontinental 707, and today's engines are more powerful and efficient...

That's what I get for thinking that a DC-3 is a "large" airliner.

Its flown by Privatair.  This flight 413 is a 737-700 BBJ.  KLM also uses them for a flight from Houston to Amsterdam.  Their aircraft are all buisness class and only take between 30-50 passengers.  Swiss company accualy.  I think several airlines use them for long hauls like these.

Dont think I would want to spend a 10 hour flight on a 737 though.  Turbulence seems to be much worse in smaller aircraft.

Did you say 18 hours in the air? How much more fuel does the BBJ model carry?

Well I think that I wouldnt mind it, its configured to be a BBJ.

But for the price?  Ill take first class on a 747 over a BBJ, thank you!

As long as I'm able to stretch my legs out, I'd be fine. :)
