Nellis Air Force Base...

Postby rootbeer » Tue Oct 24, 2006 11:09 pm

is in Las Vegas, NV. I go there twice a week. Not to the base, but close by. The aircraft fly virtually directly overhead from where I am, making their southbound turns into the runway. And not too high, either. Today I saw a B1-B come in. Very impressive and very loud. The F-22s are also in evidence more and more frequently lately. Then there is your usual abundance of F-15s and F-16s  making their sweet music. God, how I do love it so...

Nice, I usually go there once a year to watch the airplanes (well, officially for the NASCAR race, but the track is literally right across the street, so what can I say).  The best part is, the race is usually right in the middle of Red Flag, so I've seen just about everything there is to see there, except for any stealth aircraft, but maybe they're just harder to see. ;D

Post some pictures if you've got any. ;)

That is one very big flight line. I went on two Red Flag exercises to Nellis. I never saw so many aircraft in one place, at one time together. Spending tax payers money in the casinos was fun too  ;D

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

I don't have a digital camera, but I want one. There are so many from which to choose, I am left cross-eyed...

Some big airshow is going to be there in a few weeks, but I'll miss it. My unloading schedule won't accomodate me staying to watch any of it...

I so wish I could visit Nellis when there is a Red Flag Ex on. Sad fact of the matter is though not only would it be far too expensive but chances are when i stop outside the base no doubt the law would pay a visit and 'ask' me to move.

Worry not. I suspect the streets and the interstate will be lined with the parked cars of people watching from the street...
