Korean Air are being VERY safety concious... so if you're flying with them (I'm sure many other airlines will follow shortly)...

Actually it is ILLOGICAL that laptops with Li-Ion batteries are allowed to be carried in planes at all... as it is FORBIDDEN to ship lithium based batteries by plane unless they are packed in a special container

Yes, the batteries are Lithium-based, but they do not contain any significant amount of pure Lithium. Due to the laws of electrochemistry, which I won't get into, the Lithium is oxidized, not reduced, so there is little Lithium that is not already in a stable compound. And try as you might, nuetral  Lithium wont burn.

EDIT, just reviewed last-years notes on electrochem, it wont from LiCl, but nuetral Lithium.

Dash it my laptops a sony and with a sonyy laptop. Not flying with KA, but I hope UK one's don't. Talk of overreacting.
