The Greatest News Ever!!!

Postby jb2_86_uk » Thu Aug 17, 2006 9:24 am

As I have mentioned in one or two of my previous posts, I have applied for a place with the easyJet cadet pilot scheme, as it has been my ambition to be a commercial jet pilot since I was knee-high. anyway I have just in the last 5 minutes heard back from them saying I have passed the written part of the selection process and I am now to go for a test day with them!

Theres a long way to go but to be over this first hurdle feels amazing!

I am so incredibly happy!

What does the cadet program do?

I should imagine it guarantees you a job with Easy Jet at the end of it.

Thanks for the congrats and interest.

The cadet scheme will take on young pilots with little or no experience. I am still not sure about how easyjet fit in, as so far I have only dealt with their training company CTC Aviation. As I understand it, CTC will take me on with no experience and over the course of approx 2 years, have me qualified to be a FO in a jet such as A320 or 737 (in the case of easyjet). This CTC company are partners with a whole bunch of british airlines, EasyJet, Monarch, Thompson, to name a few. The idea is that you are guaranteed a job with one of these upon completion of training.

The only downside I can see at this early stage (I will be able to clear this stuff up on my interview day when I can have a chat with the folks who run the scheme) is that, for someone like me with literally no experience, they run a self-funded intensive course to get your PPL. Its the self funded part that im worried about, they have links with banks who will offer loans and such specifically for this purpose, but added to the top of my student loan, im gonna be oweing alot of people a lot of money! After that everything is paid for (including a salary)

As I say, it is all early days and theres alot of stuff I will need to clear up when I actually get to talk to someone.

I should add, that I wear glasses. This has held me back from joining the air cadets or the RAF as I know i wouldnt be able to fly, so for me to achieve my goal of being an airline pilot, I always 'knew' Id be paying for it all myself, which is why I have been at uni getting a degree so I can get a high paid job and start having flying lessons, when i saw this cadet scheme I was gobsmacked, I didnt know such things existed! Needless to say I had signed up before my jaw had even hit the floor!

Good luck! I've looked into this scheme before and it sounds quite promising, sadly im a bit young to be worrying about it yet, and frankly i want to join the RAF first, and then go commercial.  :D

I should add, that I wear glasses. This has held me back from joining the air cadets JB

I personally dont wear glasses and my vision is very good. But at my ATC squadron about 1/3 of the cadets need to where glasses, and many of them have quite a few flying hours on the Grob tutor. I dont see that your vision could hold you back from getting into the ATC.  ??? Maybe times have changed....

But im just lucky that i have this oppurtunity to get flying experience at a relitively young age, which would make me more desirable for the RAF or an airline such as EasyJet.

But anyway.
I wish you all the best and i hope your dream to fly becomes reality!  ;D

I had very briefly thought about joing the ATC at my university (Birmingham) but again, I presumed wearing glasses would hold me back, plus I am not really interested in a militery aviation career, I know that a very popular route into commercial aviation is after retiring from the RAF. Im sure alot of these people would find the idea of jumping straight into a big heafty civilian jet boring, but, although it would be amazing to razz around in a fighter for a while, I have never been attracted to the whole militery way of life and I do not think I would enjoy it. So straight into commercial aviation for me! Fingers crossed I make it!
