This project has been dancing with problems for a long time, I can't see 558 flying now due to the simply astronomical costs (whichever sum you believe from the various sources) they STILL have to pay despite all these years of  donations etc. I hate to put a downer on things and someone will probably have a go at me for saying this but I don't see there being much chance of the Vulcan flying again.

Don't get me wrong, I'd really LOVE to see it return to the skies as much as anyone but sadly I've become disillusioned with the way the project has been handled (mainly it's PR bein vague and unfixed).

It always was going to a problem - not many civilian organisations have had experience in try to operate a four engined former nuclear bomber...

As for the costs, no one is denying that they are unrecoverable - the whole point of this last ditch effort is to ensure that the huge amount of money expended already hopefully will not be wasted.

It is also well known that the person responsible for the finances is on holiday, but the staff at Brunters are still working very hard on the fundraising. Mr P who came in for a lot of criticism at the beginning of the month is in hospital for an operation too, which obviosly hasn't helped.

People can keep saying how badly the projects been run, etc etc, but there are now effectively 12 days to save the project, so maybe they'd be better viewed after 31st August...

The fact is, the level of support for the project has got HLF talking to VTST. That is a good thing.

It must be so tempting to just get that one in your vid airborne. Any reason why that one isn't being restored to full flight status?

Money. You have to remember that before it went in for overhaul, XH558 was a fast taxying example too. Part of the restoration process, for BAES and all the OEMS had to come on board has been the full "major" service.

'558 also has the advantage of living indoors...

It is the youngest Vulcan still in existence, but CAA issues grounded her from almost the day she went civilian. She would probably have been the best candidate to get airworthy again, but was left in the open for a long time neglected, so it is no longer economical
