Very worrying news for Duxford...

Postby C » Thu Jul 20, 2006 11:24 am

Cambridgeshire County Council's campaign against aviation continues. They now want to build a motorway service area (MSA) on the M11 at the eastern end of Duxford's runway. See details here. Only 3 aircraft have crashed/landed in that field in the last 20 years....

Surely such an outragous plan can't be given the go ahead.

In the words of Skid Row when told they couldn't perform a certain song at their concert as the lyrics were obscene "What is a council? Is that like a collection of f***wits?" ;D

There are services less than 20 miles further down the motorway at Standstead and services less than 20 miles further up at Cambridge. Therefore absolutely no need for any near Duxford. My sentiments concour with Ozzy's.

Yep. Apparently according to the planners, that gap, at 38miles, is unsatisfactory. Hence they wish to build new services "which will bring customers to the IWM". It'd just remove one of Duxford's biggest revenues.... ::)

But look on the brightside all those lovely planes at Duxford would have a super new target to practice their dive-bombing on to take out the freeloaders trying to watch the airshow from that car park ;D

:-/ I'm sure  motorists could survive the 38 mile gap from one service station to another, its not as though theres a major shortage along that road. Lets just hope it gets rejected by the council or there's enough objections.

This would be a convenient excuse to stop flying from the airfield completely. I suspect that would make a lot of people happy. These people never give up.

I will start be pointing out that I am a huge Duxford fan, HOWEVER, if this mad plan does go ahead, as Charlie points out that field has had an aircraft or two parked in it in past years, then anything that brings down the prices of Duxfords food and drink is ok by me. I know that keeping these aircraft in the air is expensive (I worked at Duxford in the early 90's as a volunteer), but there is pricey, expensive and then there is f*#!ing greedy.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.
