Hope to see you there. Good idea avoiding Chicago- last time I drove to Oshkosh, I wound up passing through at rush hour. And I though I'd be technically going around the city... but there was construction everywhere; many lanes shut down. Hooboy. Fun. If I don't catch a ride with Brett from Columbus, I might veer north and take the ferry. Probably worth the money.
From Indiana, though, there wouldn't be much point. Going by way of Peoria?
;D

PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE INTO CHICAGO!!!

since i live near the city, i can give you the lowdown.

the expressways 90/94 are under heavy construction. only trucks are allowed, and it's 1 lane, each way.

will be like this for about 2 years.

so you'd be doing city driving. my suggestion, take 55 to 355, hop on Lake-Cook rd (end of 355) and take that to 294. (you'd be right by me if you take this route, heck i could lead you though ;))

cause Downtown is a mess, i went there 2 weeks ago to see wicked, and the all-familiar orange cones and horses were out, ready to go.

and not only that, 355 is the only expressway free of construction. all others have either major repairs or they are getting the new tollbooth system.

which reminds me, remember that chicagoland tools had doubled, to allow for I-PASS open road tolling*

*if you have E-Zpass, you can go through the tools at 1/2 price just like I-Pass users (like me!)

i'm planning on going this year, mabye if you pass through, we could meet and travel togerther (in separate cars though ;))

Thanks for the tip; sounds like things are even worse than they were in '03. I really underestimated the Chicago snarl on the expressway, and wound up watching the opening ceremonies from the line-up at the front gate. Grrr....
It'd be fun to meet you there; don't worry, I wasn't going to offer you a ride, anyway. ;D

That's different. I provide roadside rescue... for a price.
;D

I still don't know exactly when I'll be driving in; may just fly in with Brett for the weekend part; not sure yet.
But I'm going, even if only for a couple of days.

I am going and I only live 15 minutes away. I second the thought of having a simv meeting at OSH. It should be a good year and I hope safe travels for all of you that are flying and driving into OSH. More food for thought, perhaps a BBQ after the show during one of the evenings during Airventure.

I just put in a request for the whole week, but still not sure exactly what days I'll be there (if at all).

I'll likely be there Friday and Saturday.. but I'm flying in so weather might have a say in it.

I've never been so I'm making assumptions. This much I know; If I'm there (with fearless co-pilot Rotty) we'll be in a green on white, C177RG, N177MJ, general aviation camping.

So what's the story? Still don't have any other pax? They're not...afraid to fly with you, are they?  :-X  ;)  ;D
I'm still not sure if I'll be granted the whole week off, or what I'm going to do, but at the very least, we'll meet up and go for a "flip".

The key there, wx-wise, seems to be: get in or out early in the morning . When I was there in '03 there was either a shower or massive t-storm almost every afternoon, either right before or right after the airshow.
