Airventure '06?

Postby beaky » Wed Apr 19, 2006 8:35 am

Suddenly decided I really want to go this year; put in a request for the time off work (gotta do the whole week!). Waiting for word on that, but it looks good.

So... anybody else going this year?

There is a 99.9% chance I will be up either one or both days of the weekend as I have to work during the week.

I just looked and it looks like I'll be up there the 29th or the 30th.  I don't have any definitive plans yet though, so hopefully everything will work out and I don't have anything else going on that weekend.  This year I am making it a point to stay and watch the airshow portion of whatever day I'm up there.  Last year I went up there with my dad and my younger brother and my brother got tired and wanted to leave, so as we were driving down the highway outside of the airport, we could see all kinds of explosions and smoke and B-17s and formations of WWII fighters flying over.  I'm still kicking myself for not staying another half-hour. :P ::) ;D

I booked a plane for it last October. I've got two possible passengers, but neither has commited yet.

I'll be flying out of Columbus Ohio (see a plan brewing ?)

Just food for thought, Rotty... but if you're driving as far as Sandusky (I assume Ohio).. just make it Columbus and, if we can work it out,  maybe fly the rest of the way with me.

No matter  how it all works out.. We MUST have a SimV meeting there with whomever goes !

I'm planning on camping, planeside..

Three days, two nights is my "plan"..

Push comes to shove.. I've got friends and relatives in Green Bay.

The only glitch I'd see for us sharing a plane, Rotty, is if you plan to stay all week. I can't keep the plane that long.

We'll all iron out our plans soon..

Looking SO forward to it..

I really REALLY want to go, but have no money. :( I went last year for four days and I must say, it was spectacular! I didn't want to leave, and was ready to go back before I got home. Who knows though, maybe I'll win the lottery... ::)

I've thought about it.  Should money be there and my truck be able to servive that trip I might go...not sure what day.  Take a little longer to drive it since I would go around Chicago (dont like driving in that city :P ) but wouldnt be to far out.  Closer to July I will know more ;)

Hope to see you there. Good idea avoiding Chicago- last time I drove to Oshkosh, I wound up passing through at rush hour. And I though I'd be technically going around the city... but there was construction everywhere; many lanes shut down. Hooboy. Fun. If I don't catch a ride with Brett from Columbus, I might veer north and take the ferry. Probably worth the money.
From Indiana, though, there wouldn't be much point. Going by way of Peoria?

Hey Rotty.. As the time looms, we oughta start drafting a plan (or two)...

I think our biggest conflict would be that you would want to spend more time there than I'll be able to (gotta have the plane back). Whether or not I fly back via the U.P or not will depend on whether I spend one or two nights in Oshkosh. My plan is to leave on Friday the 28th and get there before noon. Spend that day, all of Saturday and part of Sunday and be back late Sunday night. Assuming I spend two, we'd just fly back to Columbus (or Marysville) where your car would be parked. Or.. we could spend the two nights and just leave earlier on Sunday and maybe eat on Mackinac Island ? Either way (unless we get weathered in).. I need to be back by Sunday evening.

Of course the WHOLE thing is weather dependent.. I won't even go if it doesn't look decent.

Here's some data:

One of has to be an EAA member                         $40

Admission for the two of us for 3 days                  $141

Camping (three night min.)                                    $54

Seven hrs. C177RG @ 120 (inc tax)                     $840
                                                                     --------------
                                                                     $1,075.00

I'll PM you with details...
