Cool... A-10 intercept video

Postby beaky » Tue Jun 27, 2006 9:43 pm

Read the caption before speculating... this was a voluntary practice thing. Didn't know you could volunteer for this... maybe I'll visit an MOA soon for a private airshow! ;)

You can volunteer for an intercept?

*raises hand*

"Oooh!  Oooh! Pick me!"

*hand as high as muscles/bones/gravity/general laws of physics will allow*

"Pleeease!  Over here! Pick me!"

*falls out of chair, hand still raised*

"PIIIIICK MEEEEEE!"

Willow Grove NAS routinely flies A-10s by my airfield, and if you fly for too long off of runway 6, you've busted military airspace-perhaps I'll create my own intercept situation ;D (joking of course :P )

I was once used as a ground target by a flight of A-10's once whilst traversing across a field in a tractor.  ;D

Did you notice the comment about the 23mm gun? Actually, it's a 30mm.

LOVE THE GROVE!!!! i got a video of me flying over wings field in chopper 6  ;D was a few weeks ago. A-10's, C-9's, and C-130s routinely fly near my house in their extended final approach.

Cool! We've got a couple of news choppers based out of Wings (low fuel prices) :)

Well considering WW2 footage of stronger planes being shredded by smaller shells... yeah ouch.

Yep... even without explosive rounds, that gun would slice up a Cessna like a hot knife through butter. It's like a fire hose of death.
On second thought, maybe I don't want one of these things near me in flight... ;D

Cool video, I can imagine after that A10 driver got back, what his crew chief might be thinking about all the missing flares.

I remember I was backpacking many years ago, I got close to the summit of  a mountain and a sailplane pilot was giving us a show as he was catching some mountain updrafts.  He got so close, we could clearly see his face.
