Only UK based Warbird I can think of with Pacific Fleet RN markings (US-Style) is the TFC Goodyear FG1D Corsair. RN Corsairs had clipped wings (about 8" from the tip) but a Corsair has a big radial and those unmistakable bent wings. TFC's F6F Hellcay matches your colour scheme and has standard WW2 US Navy markings, very similar to RN Pacific markings. I cannot think of any other Warbirds currently in the UK with SEAC or Pacific fleet markings.

I'm wondering if it was one of the PR Spitfires. The BBMF has 2, Rolls-Royce has one & there's at least one privately owned example.

BBMF Spits here. http://www.deltaweb.co.uk/bbmf/fighters.html

RR Spit here. I think it was most likely this one. http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=photos;action=display;num=1150566655

Peter Teichman's PR XI here. http://www.hangar11.co.uk/uploads/SA%202.jpg

Probably a good call Hagar. The RR Spit gets about a bit.
BBMF have one with invasion stripes and one in a Post War scheme, all PRU Blue underneath.

A little bird told me it was going to Devon last week. It was due to call in at Popham for a special display on the way through. Unfortunately the weather was terrible & it didn't even leave base. It's possible it left on the following day.

PS. Charlie (cspyro) never mentioned invasion stripes. I would have thought they would be pretty distinctive. ::) ;)

True, but the BBMF's PS915 does not have them. I'm at a bit of a loss here because I can only think it was a US type with those "Stars and Bars" type markings, but painted blue? Can only be the TFC Hellcat or a Corsair if that is the case. I still reckon it was a PR Spit. ;)

I think you misread what he said. Quote: (looked like RN roundels but without the white side boxes like the pic that Woody posted.

The RR Spit would fit, if it had those invasion stripes.

You are quite correct Hagar. That's what happens when you read too fast. Got to be a PR Spit then.

And I have seen very little of it down here this year. It often flys out of East Midlands during the summer but other than the show at Hucknall the other week I've only seen it twice.

Forgot to mention I love this shot of yours Roger. I'm pretty certain this is what it was.

As usual it's a shame it's not a tad bigger.

I thought the wings on it were clipped? (sorry if this was corrected, but I've just skimmed through a 3 page thread ;))

Though here is a better pic of one of the PR Spits.

Hmmm, that just occurred to me too. I knew there was something.

Ah well, back to the drawing board. ::)

Yes, I know what you mean. That shot is slightly enlarged and just a tad out of focus. I wanted to catch it in front of the trees to show how low it was!

What I mean is that you usually resize your photos to 600 pixel width instead of 800 for some reason. ::)
