Istanbul Cargo terminal burned down

Postby Ivan » Wed May 24, 2006 4:06 pm

Most of the LTBA cargo terminal has been destroyed in a huge fire.

They even had to use some of their Canadair firefighter planes to put it out. (yes, that gives nice pictures, as the photographers were on the main parking area and the [planes were going in as low as they safely could)
Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and [url=http://an24.uw.hu/]An-24RV[/ur

know what caused the fire? probably some hazardous cargo labeled incorrectly that was placed with other goods it doesnt mix well with and boom there is your fire.

any clue as to what started the blaze?

i heard about someone somewhere putting an acetylene torch in a box and labeling it as something it wasnt (like dry ice or something completely wrong) and it blew up in a rampers face while he was unloading it after landing.

Press says roof repairs or welding caused it... but some vague separatist group made a statement of claiming it

It seems like terrorist groups try to claim everything.  I was talking to someone a while back and they asked "why did it take the government so long to decide the 9/11 attacks were from AlQuida?  They claimed responsibility right after".  Well, so did a thousand other terrorist groups.  Heck, I'd bet they claim responsibility for earth quakes and tornados too.  Heck, the Katrina hurricane and resulting flood probably had about a dozen or so terrorist groups claiming responsiblity.

I'm going to start claiming responsibility for the good things that happen in life.  Right now in New England it's sunny and 75 degrees outside.  If you're here enjoying the weather please feel free to thank me.  That rain we just had, with the flooding and all?  That wasn't me.  I think that was Hamas's fault.
