One of New Zealands WW2 heroes recently died, Johnny Checketts.

This is sad news (but 94 is an amazing innings) :( I'm just reading another NZ Spitfire aces book at the moment Jack Rae and Johnny features in it quite a bit.

Must confess to having not read the story on Checketts.   By my
maths he must have been an old man of 27 (ish) when the war started - a ripe old age considering most of our flyers were mere boys of 19 or so.
