stage check ride

Postby bamair » Wed Feb 15, 2006 5:19 pm

well FINALLY i made it to the lesson before my stage check ride..the infamous mock stage check ride with my cfi....very happy cause now this means if i pass that and the stage check ride i get  to solo and kick my flight instructor to the ramp for a few lessons then he'll be back  8) :)
has anyone ever taken a stage check ride? and how is the examiner going to be? is it similar to what I will face when doing the real check ride later on ? Is the examiner going to be as harsh as my CFI??

also regardng my last post i noticed today when doing steep turns that i been looking inside the plane way to much when i should be focusing on the outside first then coming inside...also i believe someone wrote about flying the arrow??? i do get a chance to fly the arrow after i get my ppl, in stage two i heard you can feel a tremendous difference  in that plane compared to the warrior.

Looking at my logbook, i see that for some reason i did my Stage I check ride after my first solo, when i'd accumulated about 30 hrs.
I was on a fairly organized Jeppeson curriculum, but obviously it was a little more loosey-goosey than your school.
I'm trying to figure out where I put my flight journal (I advise you to keep one; very useful later), but for the moment here's my logbook entry:

3/30/96; C172 N116FR; TEB-TEB; Stage I check, Slow Flt., Stalls, Emer. Proc. ; 3 landings, 1.6 hrs

I don't remember much else;just found my journals, several notebooks, very disorganized, and of course most of the entry for that flight is missing. D'oh!
The previous two flights were prep for the stage check, though- if you're curious I'll post some excerpts.

I didn't do my PPL part 141 so didn't have any stage checks, but I did do my IR part 141 and have my fair share of stage checks for that. lol

Just remember to HAVE FUN!  Do your best and you will do great.

And yes, the Arrow feels much heavier than a Warrior.  You can get away with having either the Warrior (not so much though) or the 152 out of trim a bit... but with the Arrow you're arms will be sore for a week! haha
The day is always better when you're flying upside down.
