SOLO!

Postby TacitBlue » Sat Jan 07, 2006 5:19 pm

Well ladies and gentlemen, I have done it! Today at about 10:00AM central daylight time I took off, went around the pattern and came in for a near-perfect landing all without the aid of an instructor 8). And you know what? it was easy! I was a little nervouse, but once I got airbourne there was nothing to it. The plane was actually easier to handle, especially during the landing, without the weight of another person aboard. So now I finally get to move on to other things. I was getting kind of tired of going around and around the traffic pattern.

Congrats!! That moment of truth... and triumph!! Woohoo!!
But don't ever think it's a waste of time to do pattern work... I'll spend about half my 2-hr block tomorrow doing just that. I've got nearly 200 hrs, but my landings have not exactly gotten better and better...
But I think I'll make it fun by going someplace different to do it!
;D

Thanks for the encouragement guys. :) Moment of triumph indeed! I never thought I would use this word, but it fits: I am "stoked"! :P Also, I don't think pattern work is a waste of time, I'm just ready to try something new and different. And now I can!

Didn't think you did...  just being... "that way". Pedantic, yes, that's the word. ;D
So... where are you going for your first solo XC?

I'm thinking Alaska.;D Actually I'm not really sure yet, and it won't be anytime soon. I have, however, jumped the gun and I'm teaching myself to flight plan using a VFR sectional chart, plotter and mechanical E6-B. I also have a great book by Rod Machado (yep, the guy from the FS lessons) that is quite helpfull.

Congratulations Tacit!!
I was talking to a DAS Air Cargo DC-10 Pilot recently and he told me, once you've done your solo, consider yourself a Captain!  ;)
Congratulations Captain!
Cheers
