Absolutely gutted to just see the terrible news that Ray Hanna, former leader of the RAF's Red Arrows, Spitfire maestro and owner of the Duxford based Old Flying Machine Company passed away this morning...

This one is for you Ray:

HIGH FLIGHT
Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter silvered wings:
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
    Of sun-split clouds-and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of-wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence.  Hov'ering there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew-
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space.
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

Happy Landings Ray....Doug

"Gone west; no flight plan". Blue skies and happy landings, Ray...
Don't know much about him, but it's so sad to hear of the passing of another passionate pilot who is a piece of living history...

I finally found what I've been looking for. The late great Ray Hanna posing specially for me after an immaculate display in his Spitfire MH434 at the Chailey Air Show last year.

I don't claim to have known him but he gave me & many others a great deal of pleasure over the years. He will be missed.

Very sad news.
A fitting tribute shot Doug. Did he have a website, if so I think they would really appreciate a copy of that shot.

The website linked to in my original post is the Old Flying Machine Company's, Ray Hanna's warbird operating company...

Coincidently there's an article on the life of John Gillespie Magee in the new January edition of FlyPast...

See the link to the OFMC in Charlie's post. There's a typical shot of him flying under a bridge in MH434. I think it was taken while they were filming "A Piece of Cake". I'm sure they will be deluged with much better photos than mine.

This one was taken at the same show at Chailey, (Not by me.) http://www.aviationphoto.co.uk/Ray%20Hanna%20in%20OFMCs%20Spitfire%20IX%20MH434%20Chailey%20Airshow%202004.jpg

This is how I will always think of him. ;)

Doug you've got a very personal photo there. Those are always the best especially as a tribute.
