747-8

Postby flyboy 28 » Wed Nov 16, 2005 2:42 pm

Boeing announced it's new 747-8. Not sure if it's actually 800 or just 8. Oh well. ::) They say it, along with the 787 are going to be the competetor to the A380. We'll see...

I heard about that earlier today. Let's hope it's not as ugly as Airbuses fat bird.

I don't think it looks exactly like the 400? Or is it just me? Probably just me being too tired.. ::)

Not like a -400, but there's the family resemblance.

I expect the wings get a makeover, benefitting from 777/787 exerience, and probably most of the internal systems get overhauled and modernized.

It's about time that the Boeing flight decks start getting commonality.

We already know that the 747 can fit about 1000 people in a pinch (plus one born in flight).  I would expect that some internal rearrangement will be included to extract more people space.

Possibly a slight stretch?

the new 747 is some 13 feet longer. So thats probably 4 rows maybe more.

As long as they keep planes from looking 'futuristic', I'll be happy :P

Then again, saying that, I don't mind the SR-71!

Just a stretched 744 with new wings, engines and a  redesigned interior. And the freighter still looks like a 742 with new wings. :P

It would have been better to have made it a shoulder winged plane, right?

No. Simply put it out of production and try to come up with an entirely new aircraft.

But wait - better a modified 747 than an entirely new design rape (787!).
