RAF Scotland

Postby C » Thu Nov 17, 2005 3:52 pm

We were all pleased to here today that the RAF's new F-35 JSF/JCA aircraft will be based at RAF Lossiemouth, Scotland (in the back end of nowhere). The Nimrod MRA4 will be based at RAF Kinloss, the current home of the Nimrod...

Any coincidence that the PM's Scottish, as is the Chancellor, as is the Defence Sec, as is the Armed Forces Minister?

Mmm, they could have based them at bases that are within 2 hours drive of anywhere if they'd put them south of Hadrian's wall... :-/ ::) :P

It does beg the question why? I mean if theres anywhere in the country weather is likely to effect operations its northern scotland, which cant be good for the overall wear on the airframes. Plus unless the soviets decide a reformation, any defense is likely needed closer to London Manchester Birmingham. Nice to know by the time the weather clears enough to launch in Scotland most enemys will be long gone over france before they even arrive in Manchester ::) ;D ;D

on the bright side, it does all but confirm the government will authorise the purchase of the Nimrod MR4A. they just need to sign the papers.
