I seem to recall the Hampden was popularly known as the "flying suitcase". It was about as useful from what I've read about it. ::)


As a bomber, it wasn't the, well, "best".  I understand it came into (somewhat) it's own as a low level torpedo bomber of sorts.  Either way, it, along with the early planes, served valiantly in the early months of the war.
