Found this while searching for info on the 737... I didn't knew they used these "little" guys for military applications! Cool!

Well they're turning 737's into business jets too so this isn't too strange ;D Personally I think planes like that with those kinda things sticking out of the roof resemble a giant Hand-Bag... Now imagine hitting someone with this "hand-bag" ;D

No need for an "extra" brick in that one,

Nah that would just be to heavy to lift ;D A bit too much I think...

Judge: Didn't you even think of the fact that when you hit someone with a Boeing a brick could kill them? Sheesh!

Anyone remember KAL 007 (the passenger jet the Russians shot down in the 80's)?

Well, the pilot who intercepted it (according to what I read) knew it was a civilian aircraft...not that it mattered since both the Americans and the Russians used civilian aircraft for military purposes all the time...

The  737-700 is the platform chosen for the (US) Navy's next maritime recon/patrol airplane - P-3 Orion replacement.

The first aircraft for the RAAF flew about a year or so ago now.

Not sure about using the 737 as a basis for a maritime recce aircraft - I'm not too sure if anyone's ever operated an airliner type (other than the Nimrod) at low level over the sea. I'd hate to see the fatigue on the engine pylons (Nimrod gets round that by having engines in the wing root)...

... so that's what that thing is.  I've seen it around Boeing Field several times and always forget to research it.  Thanks!

Many long range maritime patrol aircraft are former airliners.

Nimrod= Comet
P-3/Aurora= Electra
Il-38 May= Il-18 Coot
Canadair Argus= Canadair Yukon

The S-3 Viking proves that podded jet engines are not a problem in this role. :)

Mmm, but it was designed for the role as a military and the engines were a lot closer in to the fuselage. Hey ho. If BAe as it was then hadn't made quite so much of a balls up in the project management then maybe the USN would've ordered a variant of the Nimrod "2000" (as it was)/MRA 4...

Lets not forget their prop  precursors - the Anson, Hudson, Ventura, all "airliner" developments.
