Finally!!

Postby beaky » Wed Aug 10, 2005 5:33 pm

Well, having passed my FAA medical and got some decent renter's insurance, I've booked some dual in a C172 at 47N; Sunday afternoon. It'll be my first flight in the front seat in over two years.
I feel pretty confident, but intend to intensify the studying and "computer-enhanced chair flying" over the next few days, so as to get the most out of it. I'm hoping to freshen up and get the BFR out of the way in one shot... we'll see about that.
Here's hoping the weather-gods are merciful... ;D

Outstanding!! I think you're in for a treat and a pleasant surprise.

Several years ago, I did an hour of touch-n-go's after not having had my hands on an airplane for 20 yrs. I found the grooves created by almost 1000 hrs of experience and the realistic practise afforded by FS made me feel right at home.

At 67, I havent bothered to keep up my medical. Doing an hour of circuits once or twice a month keeps my flying itch scratched.

Have fun (I know you will).

It should go well. Last time it had been almost as long; I was a little surprised at how it all came back that time. And another funny thing: I've almost gotten used to being inactive... been a while since I got that special feeling. But I've been working on a job site right next door to MMU, and today after calling to book that plane, I sat in the parking lot for a minute watching a C172 climbing out right overhead... and got that tingle that means:" I'm a pilot, and I'm going flying!!!" ;D ;D

Of course... VFR flight means "eyes outside" as much as possible... but I know what you mean.
I'd love to take some inflight pictures, but I think I'll spare myself and the CFI the distraction. First solo flight after that? Maybe a few "without looking" shots.

You betcha. It should be a fun flight... this school's only Skyhawk is an N model with a 180-hp conversion, so that'll be nice!! I'm looking forward to renting that one later, too- also has long-range tanks, which will come in handy for planned longer trips with friends (which will help defray the $78/hr rental; not bad, but not cheap).
Expect a photo-essay on this airplane... ;D

That's inspiring (not that I need it  ;D).
Yeah, I wonder if my FS time will help or hinder me this time (only started flying the sim last year). I am a little concerned that I'll mistakenly try to work the throttle with my left hand, and the yoke with my right (Saitek X45)... :D Or start feeling with my thumb for a hat switch for trim ("oh... riiiight... it's that little wheel down there...")  ;D :D

glad to hear you passed the medical:) at least your medically fit to touch your nose and sneeze without passing out ;D Have fun on your flights. And isnt the best time for pictures when you have an instructor with you? gives you a few minutes hands off to rest and get some shots too.

LOL... a little peeved that I didn't score perfect on the eye test like last time; but at least I'm not blind- so I'm OK for a class 3!!;D

I don't want to rest- I have work to do, and I'm paying hard-earned money for it.  Besides, it's just another thing that could create a distraction. I'll take pictures after this flight, and some in the air next time, when I'm a little more at ease; maybe on a cross-country. But  I think the flight after this will be a couple of hours of pattern work and maneuvers, just to tighten things up a little.

I predict that as soon as you start the engine, the sounds, smells, vibration in your seat and the feel of real controls will almost instantly awaken all the old instincts you acquired. Your hands and feet will take up their proper position and act according to your wishes. Trust me, it *will* happen.
