Just amazing.  I'm about two hours east of TO myself; I was up flying at YPQ this evening and it was all we were talking about at the airport.  It's fantastic to have what could have been a horrible story end on such a high note for once  :).

OMG ! I said the same thing to my dad. As soon as they learned of no deaths they started covering other stories instantly !

To be fair to the news agencies...theyhad been covering the story non-stop for over 3 hours by the time the news of no casualties was released.

After that news there wasn't much else left to say.

I'll say this: the fact of no deaths was far less a 'miracle' (as the media is calling it) than a victory for the real heroes here: the flight attendants.
Emergency services did an excellent job; but it was the FA's that got the doors open and herded 300 panicking people to safety.

Most people think FA's are just there to serve drinks and plump pillows. In fact; they're highly trained professionals and this incident I think really shows their true value.
Hey; I appreciate a nice smile and a sandwich at 30,000ft. as much as the next guy but when something bad happens; I'm glad they're there to take charge.

I haven't bothered watching any of the media coverage. Much prefer to read the official report when the full facts are known. From what little I've seen, everyone concerned from the aircraft crew to the emergency services did a highly professional job. This is no more than I would expect from any major airline at an international airport but I'm delighted it all worked out. The media is all too ready to criticise when something goes wrong. A little credit wouldn't go amiss when someone gets it right.

From what I can see the only miracle was that this happened close to the airport boundary & within easy reach of the emergency services. If it had been in a remote spot the story might have been different.

I hate the term 'miracle'. This wasn't a miracle - it was an excellent piece of work by trained professionals.
And now of course the media hawks are inventing mistakes and potential charges, etc. turning fine details (of which they're largely totally ignorant) into major problems. To hear them talk; that aircraft was a doomed rattletrap with idiot pilots just waiting for one grey cloud to blow up on. (An exaggeration, but not by much. I watched the latest press conference - you know what journalists are like. )

That's one of my pet peeves-when some 'divine intervention' is acknowledged over the skill, training and courage of people.  That's right people are able to do incredible things, without the help of divine intervention.

Glad everyone made it out OK.  Surprised a bit, considering the fire damage to that A340.  Mom says the news shows it was pretty well gutted out by the blaze.
