More movie flying: "Mosquito Squadron"!! (part 1)

Just rented this one; can't believe I never saw it before. With everyone's indulgence, I'd like to share some vidcaps...

This is the title card from the trailer; used it because some airplanes can be seen. Sorry these aren't cropped...


Here's some Nazis preparing a "buzz bomb" for launch. Boo... hiss!!


One of the better model shots in the movie- a buzz bomb launch, complete with undercarriage dropping away.


It is one of several, seen here approaching the English coastline.


Time to put a stop to this- send in: The Mosquito Squadron!


After climbing a bit to get a good look at the target, they peel off for their bombing run.

Meaning...? If you mean "MS" is sort of silly, I agree. But there's some decent footage of warbirds and some very nice explosions...

What he means is that every single Mosquito you see destroyed in both movies are REAL Mosquito's.

Dear God, of course! Yes, it's heartbreaking. My guess is that only one real Mosquito was trashed; there are 2 crash landings, both clearly edited out of footage of one crash. Still, it's sad...

It's the same footage in both movies as well.

I have both on DVD and the amount of commonality is heartening...at least they didn't destroy droves of Skeeters to make this pair of films.

Woody was correct as to why I call the films criminal. I seem to remember more than one was destroyed by the makers of the films...

Sadly they would probably have been scrapped anyway. Nobody was interested in warbird restoration at the time or saving them for posterity. The film industry is probably responsible for saving more aircraft than it destroyed. If it hadn't been for films like The Battle of Britain many of the vintage aircraft currently on the display circuit would not exist. This film more than any other started the warbird restoration business in the UK.

I don't remember this particular film but I'm sure I've seen it. There aren't many I've missed. Looks like the usual combination of various real-life operations combined into one - to make them MORE exciting. More exciting indeed.

PS. Although two of the three B-17s flown to England in 1961 for the film The War Lover were scrapped, one made it back to the US & was used in Tora, Tora, Tora (1969). It's still flying as the EAA's "Fuddy Duddy". http://www.rmrfi.org/05_B17.htm

Indeed - BoB was the beginning of the warbird movement as we know it. Unfortunately 633 was a few years too early...

Interesting to note the Bf109G-4 restored in Germany and flown last year (and maybe at Flying Legends in July) incorporates substantial parts of a Casa 1112 that was part of Hamish Mahaddies "air force" of 1969...
