Me too. In cases like this, I always wonder, what were they thinking? ::) :P :-/

Good. I have no sympathy for them at all.

I have to wonder why this took so long when it happened almost 3 years ago.

Not that I'm justifying what they did, because it was clearly in violation of FARs, but they consumed the alcohol the evening prior to the flight.

The story is being played out as though they'd been doing kegstands in the terminal while they waited for their plane to come in...

Still wrong, still a crime...but at least they got nabbed before the plane took off.

Depends what you call evening. They were apparently drinking until 4 am - six hours before they were due to fly.
The pilots had 14 beers between them at a bar the night before the flight, closing out their $122 tab at about 4:40 a.m. -- roughly six hours before their flight was to depart.

It really makes you wonder what goes through their minds.  Throw away a lifetime of commitment, money and training and a dream job for an all-nighter.  And both of them were intoxicated.  It's a good thing they caught them, two drunk pilots flying a commercial jet is an imminent threat to the lives of everyone.

As a rule I do not drink the night before I have a flying lesson. That can be kind of annoying because my lessons are always on a saturday or sunday. But it's still way better than flying with a hangover or worse.

Hey, if I can't go Scuba Diving for 24 hours before flying, then you can't drink!  Fair is fair...  ;D

It is really expensive at bars (pubs), but they must have been drinking fancy imports, because I cant even imagine what beer would cost $8.00 each.  :o

Sounds like they made a night of it. Don't know how it works in Florida but drinking after hours can be expensive in this country.
Prosecutors say that between them, Cloyd and Hughes ran up a $122 tab and consumed seven 34-ounce glasses and seven 16-ounce glasses of beer over a six-hour period at a popular Coconut Grove sports bar. At dinner before that, they had consumed wine and Cloyd drank a martini.

The revelry finally ended about 4:40 a.m., about six hours before the flight was preparing to depart.

PS.
Hang on, 14 pints. Costing $112?

If 16 ounces = 1 US pint that works out at 21 pints.
