Concorde G-BSST  002 Prototype.

I've just got back from a short break with my 8 year old Daughter in Somerset. Whilst down there, we visited RNAS Yeovilton's superb "Fleet Air Arm" Museum.

I had the pleasure and , to some degree, sadness of explaining to my awe struck child that this monster of an Aircraft could travel faster than a rifle bullet, expanded as it got faster (!) and despite it having over 12 tones of test equipment, Daddys PC back home was vastly more powerful than the huge banks of late 60's hardware that fills Concorde 002's cabin.

She could not grasp why such a plane is now no longer being used, and found it "silly" that "new , modern planes" as she describes them, travel far lower than Concorde and a hell of alot slower!

She was staggered to learn that G-BSST 002 last flew in March 1976, when her Daddy (Me!) was just 3 !
Progress eh?

amazing how small she is inside isn't it?
Did you enjoy your trip to yeovilton? havent been the museum in a couple of years as i dont go on the airday. Any pics?

Vive our other great invention, in that picture, the Sea Harrier...

...and of course the Fairey Delta, on time fastest plane in the world...

Glad you had a nice day out Scania. You've been somewhere I never have - yet. I took Craig's advice to steer clear of the museum on the display day. Not that I would have had the time anyway.

Doug its much better to go on a quiet day. That way you can really read all the info without someone pushing you out the way. Plus the aircraft carrier exhibit is a little small to be too crowded.

This is one museum I've been to a couple of times but never in the last ten years. When I pass my driving test I might go on a trip to visit it and the Dorset tank museum... ;D

Is that the Bovington place - last time I went there was the same time I last wen to the FAA museum - 1988!!! ;D

Glad you had a nice trip. Beautiful Concorde. I miss her so. It was somewhat of an awesome experience just to be on the same frequency when she was comin' into or leavin' JFK.

And is that a Camel I see flying up top?
Pilot for a major US airline certified in the: EMB-120, CRJ, 727, 737, 757, 767, and A-320 and military, T-38, C-130, C-141, and C-5 along with misc. other small airplanes. Any questions, I'm here for you.

I believe that its a  - Bristol Scout D (N5419 replica) that you see in the pic...........

There is a Camel at Yeovilton, and what a contraption it was "in the flesh" - those pilots were Very brave and / or slightly mad to go up in it imho!!!
