One of the best reasons to avoid Restricted areas and MOAs...!;D
  I'll bet the PIC knew the rotors would strike the trees, but perhaps figured they'd chop through without any harm done. Ha! Well, at least one of those guys learned something that night (assuming they survived)!!

Yea, saw that one on bigboys a while ago, wonder what happened to the pilot (like, was he booted out)

no, the ribbing back at base would have been punishment enough:) Seriously though, i doubt this would have cost him his Wings, most likely grounded for a period of time then flight school, and a huge part of his pay cheque going towards repairs.

Yep not a good thing to wreck a perfectly good heli.
Pilot for a major US airline certified in the: EMB-120, CRJ, 727, 737, 757, 767, and A-320 and military, T-38, C-130, C-141, and C-5 along with misc. other small airplanes. Any questions, I'm here for you.
