Flippin Kids!!!

Postby OldW » Wed Feb 16, 2005 5:51 am

I need someone to share my story with, if it bores you, oh well.

Anyway... It was a nice sunny morning, and i was due to take up a child for a flight after he one a prize that i had given to a charity raffle thing, we took off from cambridge airport EGSU in a Cessna 172...time passes... Towards the end of the flight she wasn't flying well at all, (sudden changes in altidude occuring) after a while it started getting worse and i started getting worried seeing as there was no wind to cause the sudden vertical movements. I thought it was best to land so i did my landing checks, but whilst looking towards the right set of instruments, i noticed that this kids leg was moving up and down (because he was nervous about flying), and his knee was on the flippin flap selector! So the flaps had been moving up and down for the past 10 mins! So i called late finals and landed.

Thanks for listning, hope your not asleep. Anyone else got any stories like this, if so i'd like to hear them, i need some fresh ones to tell

LOL!!! That's priceless... hope your IAS wasn't too far outside the white arc when that happened...
Worst pax story i have was when I took a friend up for a hop in a C172, and he was shooting w/a camcorder. I hadn't thought to warn him that staring at the LCD in flight might make him queasy, but I did tell him to let me know immediately if he did get queasy, as it was a little bumpy that day.
Well, we were doing a "Hudson Scenic" out of N07, right turn at the GW Bridge then down the VFR corridor to the harbor, and back. Not bad until we hit the typical turbulence over the bridge, then- wham! We dropped at least 50 feet on one bump. "That shouldn't happen again, but you OK?" I asked. "Yeah", he murmured, intent on his shooting, it seemed. I was too busy scanning the sky for traffic and minding my course in the narrow corridor to watch him after that.
He was pretty quiet the rest of the flight, until I turned for final back at N07. Then, to my horror, he started puking. to his great credit, he made sure it went down inside his nice leather jacket instead of all over the plane (what a pal!!).
After we landed, I reminded him that I'd told him to speak up if he felt sick, and asked him at what point he'd first felt nauseous.
"The moment we left the ground!" he replied. :D
Poor bastard... I could only shrug, though. If he'd said he felt sick, I would've come straight back, but...
Best part: When I saw the tape, it ended just after the bump over the bridge! That's when he had to put the camera away.... :D

True, true. did cause me to rush my approach and land a little long (NOT a good idea at N07!!), but that's my fault, not his. Should've paid no heed.
