Gives lots of details of dis-used airfields I use in the flight sim...
San Francisco Bay area:
Hamilton AFB in Marin County, and Alameda NAS across the Bay.
Both filled with warehouses, etc now... ...!

Very interesting. There's plenty of abandoned WWII airfields around here. Most of them were still operational when I was a lad.

I thought they only invented powered aeroplanes in the 1900s Doug...



Used to fly RC from an old (haunted) airfield in Lincolnshire. There are loads in the UK and I find their history very interesting. There are several in the New Forest around me, and aerial navigation in Lincs and East Anglia is made a doddle by there existance...

There is a big one near my place. The old main airport of Athens Greece LGAT (Elliniko) which is replaced by LGAV (Venizelos) since 2000 (if I remember well).

Wow, that's a really interesting site.  There's one that I've driven on (suburban housing now) all the time.  I never knew.

There is an airfield called Ambler that was abandoned within the past couple years... it's not really close but the weather briefer still finds it important to tell me every single time that it is, indeed, still abandoned.  :P

True, but for someone as alert as me it's like asking the pizza delivery man to check if the pizza is, in fact, dead.  :D

I will have to check out that site. There is an old base that I have actually done a few low passes over and checked out. I have stopped in my truck and walked down the runway, dispersal huts, even the PMQ's. In Saskatchewan here it was a training base for Halifax's (I think) and Westland Lysanders. They used the Quil lakes as thier practice bombing range. The base is called DAFOE. It even has the concrete meathead shack up front but instead of a halifax there now sits a tracter...... hhhtttttttttt ..........

Check out WV11, not exactly modeled in FS but its an interesting field, very.....unique
