Question about parking planes.

Postby krylite » Fri Nov 19, 2004 6:52 pm

Hi,
I didn't know where else to ask this. I'm curious about this situation. Assume one has a ppl and rents a plane out and flies from a municpal airport to an international like LAX.

What happens then? Can one park a plane in some designated public parking space for a toll just like car parking lots? Is there a private pilot terminal at LAX? If you wanted to find out and/or notify a flight plan to LAX, would you have to call the airport or some regional FAA office?

Sorry, if it's a dumb and simplistic question. I'm fairly new at this and reading the FAA.gov site was just too much for me to find an answer to my question.

Thanks.

An FBO(fixed base operator) is where you would park in a small aircraft. An FBO usually does "the works". At a minimum they'll supply fuel and parking. At the other extreme.......Jet Aviation in Teterboro has a Gym, Snooze Rooms and showers.  To find out what FBOs are available at any airport in the US, log onto www.fltplan.com  .   It's free, quick and painless and there are many features to the site beyond just the FBO info that you can use  in the Sim.

Usually at a large airport you would request a taxi to the GA (General Aviation - little planes) parking area and they'd tell you where to go.  ;)

Almost all larger airports allow smaller aircraft to land there, but they require prior reservations and a HEAVY, HEAVY fee for landing because they really don't want you there.  ::)
