A challenge it is, since it looks like several aircraft, and it seems to me I've seen that plane somewhere...

Which is exactly what it isn't. :P :)

In my mind it looks quite German. And the nose looks very much like that of the Albatross.

Ok folks, i'll give you a clue. It is British. And was one of the first aircraft to use flaps.

I want to say it's an R.A.F. S.E.4 (unlike the later SE4a that had a more "conventional" appearance.

I got thrown off because THAT (the SE4) was the plane I was thinking of when I said SE2.  But I'll be darned if I could come up with a photo of the SE4 - I can come up with the SE2, SE4a, etc. ... but I KNOW I've seen the SE4 somewhere..
