Famous Approach

Postby Foxtrot Sport » Wed Jul 21, 2004 8:05 pm

I wasn't really sure where to put this but last time I posted something like this, it was moved here so I guess here goes.  What is that famous approach that goes basically off a cliff.  I have seen pics and even a couple screedshots, but have never seen the name of the airport.  I believe it is in Switzerland or somewhere around there. Thanx  ;D

I believe you may be talking about the Kai Tek airport approach in Hong Kong.

One of the approaches appeared to be straight towards a cliff with a "last second" turn.

I'm with Steve on this one, yup VNLK if memory serves, you literally drop about 100 feet as you go off the end of the runway. One of my friends was there and he said he nearly had to change his pants after take-off ;D

Here are the choices :

LUKLA (VNLK - Nepal)

KAI TAK (VHHH - Hong Kong [closed])

Couldn't find any pics of the last one.

I love the comment on the picture that craig linked too ... "Comitted to land" ..... Does that mean you need a straight jacket .... padded cell to land there.... or will you need one after landing  :o

cheers

Well, from FS2004, the airfield is right below the cliff. I tried to take off from it and flew straight into the cliff.... ::) Also in Courchevel in FS2004, there isnt a cliff way at the end of the runway... Whatever, it woulda been fun trying to fly a 747 off of that thing... :(

For VNLK, you have to select runway 25.
