[quote]My personal thinking of "ultimate" is a combination of performance and contribution.

If thats how you chose, then shouldn't you have chosen the Hurricane? ::) ;D

The Hurricane didn't have the range and overall performance of the Mustang.  OF course, one could say that the Mustang was a reconfigured Hurricane .. :)

"I don't like most aircraft with liquid cooled engines (poor durablilty)."-wwatkins
No crud! On CFS2, i was in a corsair with it's big radial, attacking the Akagi, got hit directly with a flak shell, blew off six (yes, SIX) cylinders, and i still made it back to base. (Apart from the fact that my port wing got shredded from the flying shrapnel). In a mustang, however, one of the destroyers shot three (yes THREE) 7.62mm rounds into my engine and radiator, and the engine siezed. no, it more than siezed! when i got down to 100 feet, it blew up and sent me spiralling into the waves! plus, that heavy radiator sunk as soon as it hit the drink, nosing me over and trapping me in the plane! Nah, liquid-cooled engines suck big-time. a radial P-38 would have been better than the original.
