Trips to cockpit

Have you or anyone you have known ever visited a cockpit inflight...I asked when I was in Orlando on a NWA flight but was shoot down ...they told me I could only vist before takeoff and after landing...If you have ever visited what is your secret,other than knowing the pilot, maybe a regional aircraft (I was going to ask to go up front in a ERJ but I felt a little embarased with all those people standing there)...I am young and you would think I would bring no harm being in the cockpit...but I guess with this damb  Sept 11...it wouldn't be safe

there are NO inflight visits to the cockpit certainly in north america, anymore. Only certain people who work for a company can get clearance to go in there such as flight attendants. Europe is also quickly adopting this measure aswell, and i am not to upset about it. One thing that would make a plane unsafe is open door cockpits. Just wait untill after the flight, if your quick enough then the pilots should still be there to answer your questions and show you the various things.

Being a geriatric I've been up to the cockpit loads of times as a kid. Its amazing aged 4 to go and see the approach to New York.
I feel its a real tragedy that they no longer allow this, but I can understand the security issues

Sadly a sign of the times.

I can remember not so long ago flying on small airliners with the cockpit door wide open throughout the flight. In fact some only had a curtain separating the cabin from the cockpit. Somehow I don't think we will ever see those days again.

its a shame for any aviation lover, and the bad thing is i cant ever see it going back to the times when you could go up front, but when you think about it, it makes sense after all.

I don't know how I do it, I have only been rejected once (after 9/11). Just be yourself and say something like 'I want to be a pilot someday etc etc'

What's more scary is that sometimes you know more about the aircraft than the pilots flying it, LOL

My  last experience was on a Dusseldorf-Orlando LTU 767 (Sept.2000), I was allowed for a short visit as we had crossed over Canadian airspace.

On that flight, flying over Greeland's frozen expanses was the highlight of the trip.

I've been to the cockpit a few times...but none since 9/11.

The last time was actually an invite. I was in uniform enroute from CYYZ on an Air Canada 767 when the stew asked if I could come to the cockpit. When I get there I find the copilot was a Sqdn member that had left the CAF a year or two back and saw me boarding.

Back in the late 80's I was in the Naval Reserve.  Once during a flight as a passenger in a Navy C-9 (DC-9) I got to visit the cockpit in flight.  Amazing how small it was.  The crew was just sitting there with their arms folded watching the instruments etc.

The only time I've been to the cockpit was on my way to Australia from the UK. We were crossing a vast desert in an Emirates 777. Unfortunately, I don't really remember it much, because I wasn't as interested in aviation as I am now. But I do remember looking out of the cockpit windows and thinking "WOW!".

I own a cockpit DVD...so that company Just Planes..must have some type of speacial treatment to get into the Cockpits

alot of their dvd's were made pre 9/11 certainly the UK and US airlines one. I havent check the latest list but i noticed alot of their newer ones were smaller airlines in europe or the asian companies who arnt so strict on cockpit visits.
