Black Flag?

Postby expat » Tue Jun 24, 2008 7:49 am

So, why was Kimi not black flagged due to the bit of exhaust that was hanging off? It was a danger to other cars and spectators. It did in the end become detached and luckily flew off into a run off area. What sort of conversation would we be having had it hit another car or become embedded in a spectators head? Seems that the rules in F1 at the moment are not applied clear across the board.

Because he was in a Ferrari? Had that been a McLaren, you can bet your life it would have had maybe not the black flag, but the black and orange. Folowed by some sort of fine.

It didnt seem clear wether it fell off before the last pitstop and the director showed it as a replay afterwards, or that it fell off after the last pitstop, and no attempt was made to remove it due to wiring to a sensor thats in there. Or somthing ;D

Kimi dodges another bullet

Hamilton didn't gain any time in his shortcutting and he was penalized

ooooh lordy here we go. Ferrari start to pull ahead so its time to start bashing. Gee its 2004 all over again. ::)
However to be fair I was expecting him to get the black and orange flag. I think the FIA was expecting them to pull the exhaust off at the pitstop, they knew when the pit stop would be and since it was only a few laps away they let him go. However when they failed to remove it I think they would have been prepairing to black and orange him but it flew off pretty quickly anyway.

Hamilton was going so fast as he passed that his momentum meant there was no way he was going to make the chicane. If he'd held back a bit and not been so gung-ho he wouldn't have passed him, so in my opinion the penalty was justified.

in that case we should start calling out penalties for people who push too hard in the turns and nearly hit other drivers.  As a matter of fact just stop allowing passing, qualifying is enough of a show isn't it?

I am getting quite angry in this forum, much more angry than if this were a political or religious discussion.   ;D
