installing racing seats bmw

Postby Craig. » Fri Apr 18, 2008 5:56 pm

Does anyone have any idea how I'd go about putting in some racing seats? My back can't take another long journey with my current seats and i've checked out a couple of seats that are quite comfortable.
Having done a search I cant actually find out the info I need.
that being, will I need a subframe and B will this set off the warning lights on my OBC and need a factory reset?
cheers guys.

Hope I've got the year right for your model..

As for the original question, I'd say if you don't need a frame, you'll at least need a new seat belt set up, so I'd say you'd need some sort of tweak in your electronics regarding the tensioner etc.

I'm sure there would be away of adapting them to any type of racing seat though, would it be worth giving them a call during the day to see if its possible to?

I've thought about this Craig and it's a bit of an afterthought, but may I ask why you feel a racing seat will help you with your back problem? They're very uncomfortable (hard) when used for long periods of driving and are also quite restrictive to an everyday driver.
Have you tried adjusting the lumbar support on your existing seat?

I've tried everything including a pillow, the simple fact is BMW 3 series are just not made for comfort. My cousins 04 330I is exactly the same. In general its not just the back but the comfort aswell. I've found a couple of seats that are actually fairly well cushioned, certainly more than the current seats. I want to give them a go before I take the next step and thats buying a new car, because I am doing more and more long distances and motorway driving, and I'd like to be able to walk when I get to my destination. :'(
