Ride + speed bragging topic

Postby Ivan » Sun Oct 07, 2007 3:54 pm

So we had the 'what do you drive' topic... but how fast is it...

Mine:
2002 Saab 9-3, 2.0 LPT @ 150hp. Also has airco which eats power...
Factory max speed: (conservative numbers!) 210Kmh.
Max ever done: around 160Kmh where 120 is allowed... People stop overtaking you at around 140Kmh.
Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and [url=http://an24.uw.hu/]An-24RV[/ur

Had 130 mph out of it.. once. Downhill and wind assisted*

I once drove a 2CV. Manufacturers top speed = 72mph

I had it at 74mph. Beat that - faster than published! The GPS said so*...

*ok, that was a lie, I didn't have a gps, but the speedo almost said 75... ;D ;D ;D

Now I drive a hairdressers car from the manufacturer that won the 1991 24 heures du mans...

Off the top of my head its 140hp/130mph. Never taken it anywhere near the far side of 100. Never felt the need...

Getting into my other car is dangerous though from Swindon's finest car manufacturer - I can easily get towards 100 in that without realising, as the relative noise level is so much quieter than the wee car!

1989 Mercury Cougar XR7, factory Eaton M90 supercharged 3.8L V-6, 210BHP @ 4,000 RPM, 315 pound feet of torque @ 2400 RPM, 5-speed manual trans., 2,238 built. How fast?, don't know. Has seen 130MPH with power left. Rumor has it topping out at 140MPH+  Weekend cruiser.
Other car: 1989 Mercury Cougar LS, 3.8L V-6, 140BHP @ 3800 RPM, 215 lb-ft torque @ 4000 RPM, AOD 4-speed automatic trans with overdrive. How fast? Not much over 80MPH. Suspension is sluggish. OK for daily driver.
Other other car: 1970 Chevelle SS 396C.I.. Engine replaced with 427 C.I.. Dyno shows 625 BHP @ 6,200 RPM. Engine has seen 7,200 RPM with no worries. How fast? just under 120MPH in the quarter mile @ 10.9 seconds. Top speed? Not much faster as differential is geared down to 4:56 ratio. Afraid to find out with proper gearing.

On a bike 145mph down the M4 at 5am on a Sunday morning a long time ago.
In a car 155mph along the M40 late one evening in my bosses Ferrari, scared myself silly when I realised how much faster the car could go and it was far more able than me. Since then I tend not to go above 100mph except when I'm in a REAL hurry :o

155mph ....... In a hearse ...... yes you read it right a hearse.

0-60 in 4 seconds 0-100 in 7 seconds limited to 155mph. Cant remember the engine capacity but it was V8 with loads of power.

I have a "03" Ford Taurus with 220 HP that I've had up to 105 mph but the fastest Ive been was 150 in a 1974 Ford Pantera.  My friends Father was the Service Manager at a Ford dealership and it belong to the owner.  He would let him take it home and then my friends Father let us take it out a couple times!! :)

I'm scared to tell you. A restricted 298 KM/H on a 1300 cc Suzuki Hayabusa in France on my way to Spain. Only lasted for a few seconds though, way too fast for my health. Wasn't my bike too, was rented from the local Suzuki dealer. But what a rush.

Crash ;) (not that day luckily)

Renault Clio - 1.2 16v 75bhp
Max Speed (official) - 106mph
My Max Speed - 117mph (indicated...on a private track of course  ;) )

bare in mind people that what your speedo says and the speed you are actually doing a very different.  speedos are in general not very accurate!

Legally there is an allowable tolerance of +/- 10% in the UK, more likely to be a +10% reading, even on your digital readouts.

that Suzuki dealer = mad.

Most scary ride...
Beaten-up Renault Twingo driven by my girlfriend... I dont like cars that seem to fall apart when doing over 80kmh... especially when it has know electrical problems (dead speedo, messed up electrics with a half-functional aftermarket immobilizer)

There was also the 105mph in a Fiat Cinquecento 900cc....... down a big hill with the wind behind me ..... If anyone doesn't know what a Cinquecento looks like then here's a picture. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Fiat ... to_704.jpg

The first reaction of most people is "I wouldn't want to be in one of them in an accident!!".... you don't want to be in one doing 105mph it's seriously scary  :o :o
