Don't speed! :D

first ticket = $105 for 62 in a 45 zone....honestly I'm not used to the new car, it feels like I'm doing 40 when the cars right around 65 since it rides totally different than the truck I drove for 4 years....

Great money saving tip, keep your eyes on that annoying little dial that moves as you press the right pedal down....  ;) ;D

Whoopsie... I've been there; usually in a brand-new rental. But the only time I ever got nailed was on the West side Highway, of all places; never seen anyone pulled over there in 20 years of driving in NYC. What sort of hot rod was I driving? My old Volvo 242!!! :D I was doing about 55 just to avoid getting rammed, mostly... the (non-posted) limit in Manhattan is 35... it was a "sting"; he was waiting on a side street; took me totally by surprise. :P

Here's more advice for those in a hurry: if you top a rise or come around a bend, doing about 10 mph above the posted limit like everyone else, and you see Smokey on the shoulder or whatever, radar gun drawn, do NOT tap your brakes, try coasting or downshifting first, but gently... they look for those dipping noses, and will go after those cars.  It helps, of course, to maintain something close to proper spacing, which is just smart practice anyway. The cops' reasoning is sound: if everybody's speeding, the ones who are so close to the car ahead that they need to brake are most likely to cause an accident. They can't pull everybody over, so...
