Well, the boss has me running his personal errands again

He has a 2004 Audi A4 (I have the VIN number too), and the driver side brake light is out.

What you could do with is a Haynes Manual .

Although it maybe cheaper in the long run to ask the dealer if they'll photocopy the relevent page in their manuals.

if its like every other one ive done then-
pop the boot
prise off the plastic cover on the rear of the tail lights
find the bulb, twist it out and replace!  :)

Right, we've gotten that far

But he still wants specific directions-if not for the A4, then for ANY similar sedan.  Please, he'll physically kick my ass if I don't have something for him by tomorrow... I had today off.

Eno-that looks like a good resource, but he's cheap, and he's not going to order anything if he thinks he can find stuff like that for free, which he does.

Call round to dealers and ask for photocopies of their manuals ........ you never know you might get lucky.

Just the bulb-I'm pretty sure that I can buy just the bulb, although so far all I've been able to find online is the full light assembly.

you can get a bulb from any motorfactors, they cost hardly anything.
just go in the boot, behind the light cluster will be a plastic assembly (might be covered by carpet)
remove this, usually they are clipped on, then locate the dodgy bulb.
twist it out, and replace! its not hard, and can be done in no time at all  :)

Tell your boss that he really shouldn't be driving if he's incapable of changing a single bulb on his own without detailed instructions (manufacturers design these so that they are easy to figure out)- do you have to keep pressing on his chest to keep him breathing?? - jeez. I know plenty of women who can confidently change bulbs on their own.

The petrol station where he fills up will more than likely have the bulb on the shelf as most of them are standard - & it's unlikely to cost him more than

LOL, I laughed the other day, then I went to take the bad one out of my 1965 comet and it's actually a whole sealed bea, type setup, which the local auto parts store did not have, so I get to look around for a replacement first....

Is it one of those large round headlights that you are looking for?  I know that most larger autoparts stores carry those (like Autozone).

lol, sorry no, this is an approximate 3.5 by 5-6 inch or so rectangular one. All red.

I'm sure that someone around here will have one, but there in small town america it is harder to find an auto parts store, let alone one that has the parts you need for classic cars..

I'm going to pull out my 65 master parts list and it will tell me the correct part number and my shop manual will give me the rest of the details in case the place I get my parts from doesn't have a clue as to what I'm looking for.

I was considering taking the light out amd bringing it home with me, but then I would have had to fabricate a piece to fill the hole in the mean-time..

Mainly it just surprised me, I figured it would be a standard bulb replace it and get on with life..

lol, it never seems to work out that way does it?  ;D
