Thinking of changing my 318i to a 730i am I mad ?

Postby 4_Series_Scania » Thu Jun 09, 2005 5:31 pm

I'm looking to replace my '92 318i, nothing particular wrong with it, I just want something bigger & more comfy, also, I'm sick of gearchanges, an automatic is a must.

Fuel consumption isn't much of an issue, most of the week, it'll sit at work gathering dust.

I've found this on my travels......

I dont see what the problem is. You want this car, i say go test drive it or one simmilar see if it meets your expectations if so buy it. The only down side is, since you dont do that much driving would it be worth the money? thats a personal choice really.

If it's what you want then I would get it. No point in wishing you had in a few months time.

This is what I want to hear !  :)

The main reason I'm thinking of a car like a 7 series is simply that I won't use it that much, my theory being, it should last and be ideal for the occasional blasts down to Somerset.

My head says "no" my heart says "yes", I've driven the car, and its better than the description! frankly, I'm surprised the guy has'nt had the mileage wound back 150k, you would'nt know if he had from its condition....

Its something like that or, a 325i/328i for similar money, more than likely, I'd drive such a car like a hooligan where the "7" just isn't that type of car , and, I don't want to drive it fast, its great to "waft along" in.

Decisions decisions......   :-/

Believe me mate, I have 14 gears in my truck, each one requires a prod of the clutch pedal. At the end of a week trawling the UK, my left foot says to me "Automatic? - Yes please!"   ;)

Alas, on calling today, the cars sold.  ::) but, I am sold on a 7 series , so I'll see what other examples I can come up with for not too much money.

Interesting people have had problems with BMW's my current one is 12 years old, still on its factory clutch! and nearing 175k miles.

When I had a Scania the only time I used the clutch was to start off and for the splits, the rest of the time I just "fed" it in to the next gear, to change down a quick blip in neutral then into the lower gear. It saved a lot of leg ache in London!  ;D

I've been told not to do that, although I know what you mean. Interestingly, our "04" reg trucks don't like the "skipping the clutch" but, the older "W" reg ones thrive on it!

I've got an 04.....  ::)
