If that were true than the U.S. military wouldnt drive Chevy SUV's and hummers now would they.

America would never buy anything from another country. Even if it was better than what you had. America uses Hummers because they think any off road vehicle should be able to follow in the tracks of a battle tank.

Frankly after listening to you for a month or so now Woodie, you sound like you simply don't like anything that comes from the states. ::) :P

Thats not true. I like the Willys Jeep. And the Tommy gun. Apart from that, no, there isn't much about the states that I like.

Yeah, so? Do you have a problem with that? In the same fashion you take pride in your Volkswagons and Beamer's, we take pride in ours, and as most nations prefer, do as much ourselves as we can.

Yes,....... I don't follow as to what is wrong, or what you think is wrong, with that. They are supposed to be able to go anywhere a tank is. Do you have any idea how much easier it makes war planning to have a support and secondary infanty force with TOW's and macine guns that is just as moblie as the tanks? I am going to take it, if you don't like hummers than you also don't like Stryker's either. Just because your country has yet to crank out something as mobile and durable, doesn't mean you need to hate ours. :P

Sounds like jealousy more than anything else. You're more than welcome to move over here and partake while helping ballance out this veritable stew. ::)

You answer me this: head on collision between a sedan and a Suburban, or even a small SUV Vs our Ford F-350. Who is going to come out the winner, or better off than the other? ::)

He he, just wait a month till we have bash bars on it too...... ;D

both vehicles would take considerable damage depending on speed, but no one wins if someone dies

Note the phrase "better off than the other". If I hit  someone in our F-350 with bash bars driving anything less than another large truck or suv, they are going to be gone.

We do not think of Europe as all one country. >:(
Yes, once you start going over past Poland and Switzerland it will start blending together for most Americans, but we know where everything is west of there. >:( ::) >:( :P

To put it all in perspective and to put it bluntly a car is a car is a car ....... It gets you from A-B hopefully safely. Whatever car anyone chooses to drive is irrelivent as long as its driven well.

Just to add to the off road debate the Russians and Austrians make/made the best off road vehicles.

Lada's (even the saloons) where built to handle conditions that some tanks  would be sruggling in.

and the Austrian contender is the Pinhauser ... mostly used in specialist areas such as Mountain rescue and occasionally seen @ airports as  part of the fire department.

Actually, the Hummer is not nearly as mobile as a tank. Just because it's as wide as a tank it doesn't mean it can go anywhere a tank can. All it means is it can go to most places a tank has been. And i'm afraid to say, that is nowhere that a Defender can't go. :P

And as for the durability, LandRover made 1.7 million series I, II and III landrovers. Over 70% of those vehicles are still on the roads. And they were all built between 1950 and 1980. For durability you can't beat one of those.

the only thing that I've heard about Hummer's getting stuck in is snow, the driver got it into deep snow and just spun the tires and it ended up sitting on the chassis.....

anyways...you guys are completely forgetting something.....

Come to think of it, we don't need to either. We can, and often do, simply buy the engineers out and have them come over here and create whatever we need under a U.S. name that will be every bit as good as theirs.

I wouldn't say that....America honestly builds some of the worst motorcycles in the world.
