A2A

Postby patchz » Mon Aug 23, 2010 4:57 pm

I sorta complained about the prop behind the clouds issue with my A2A WOP P-51 a while back in some thread, don't remember which one. It never occurred to me to check the website for info. I sent an email asking if the Corsair and P-40 had the same problem as I was interested in buying them if they did not. Lewis answered fairly quickly with a 'check the forums for a patch' email and Voila, problem solved. Anyway, thanks A2A. :)

I would like to know how they did it though, as several of my freeware models could use the same fix.

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

So the model files are still the old ones compiled for FS9? If so, then I would love to know the fix as well.

That would solve a lot of issues for almost every FSX simmer. Hopefully they will publish the fix.

[color=#000000]I have to assume so, I never heard of a native FSX model having that issue. Wouldn't it be great if they 'told' the secret as a PR deal. Might even generate some sales. Hint, hint. :)

Best guess on how they did it:

Most people who convert FS9 sdk models to FSX sdk models,
simply load the gmax file up in the FSX ready version of Gmax,
and convert it to FSX standards.
It can be a bit of a hassle with part names and all,
but certainly, can be easier than starting from scratch.

Hey Larry, there's a way to tell which SDK a model was created with.

Go to the WOP P-51 model folder and open up the .mdl file with notepad (It'll take a few moments to load up).
On the top line you will either see "MDL8MDLH" or "MDLXMDLH".
MDL8MDLH is a model compiled with the FS8/FS9 SDK.
MDLXMDLH is a model compiled with the FSX SDK.

[color=#000000]The .mdl shows FSX SDK. That may not help me with my freeware stuff, but at least m P-51 is fixed. Makes me more trustful of their P-40 and Corsair too.

I think I have entirely too many things going on at once. I also got the 3D Redux lights and am having some minor problems with them. I'm still waiting for confirmation of registration to the forums so I can see the links etc. posted and ask questions. I also got the B-17 as another early birthday present. And I've been working on the Tilt Rotor QEII repaint. I'm beginning to understand how a headless chicken feels.
